A 250 to 330gsm terry microfibre cloth in 40x40cm is the best all rounder for benches, desks, appliances and bathrooms. 250gsm cloths are light and economical for high volume use, 310gsm cloths are a good middle weight, and 330gsm cloths are plusher and hold more water. Use a glass cloth for windows and mirrors.

Microfibre fibres are much finer than cotton and are split during manufacturing, which creates far more surface area to grab and hold dust, grease and bacteria. This means microfibre cleans well with water or very little chemical, dries faster and leaves less lint than cotton rags.

Colour coding means using a different cloth colour for each area, so germs are not carried from toilets to kitchens. A common system is red for toilets and urinals, yellow for bathroom basins and surfaces, blue for general areas and green for food preparation. Wash microfibre separately from cotton in warm water with a mild detergent such as our Microfibre Wash. Do not use fabric softener or bleach, because they clog the fibres and reduce cleaning power. Line dry or tumble dry on low heat. Washed properly, quality microfibre can be laundered hundreds of times.
